Frequently Asked Questions
Do I Need Flood Insurance in Florida?
Flood insurance is required for properties with federally backed mortgages (FHA, VA, USDA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac) that are located in a FEMA Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA — Zones AE, VE, A, AO, AH). Even for properties outside the SFHA, flood insurance is strongly recommended — approximately 25% of flood insurance claims come from properties outside the SFHA. In Florida, flood insurance can be obtained through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) or through private flood insurance carriers.
