Florida Impact Window & Door Requirements

Impact-resistant windows and doors are required in Florida for: - All new construction in the High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) — Miami-Dade and Broward counties - New construction in areas with design wind speeds above 140 mph (most of coastal Florida) - Replacement windows and doors in existing buildings in the HVHZ For areas outside the HVHZ with design wind speeds above 140 mph, the Florida Building Code allows either impact-resistant windows and doors OR non-impact windows and doors with a compliant storm shutter system. All impact windows and doors used in Florida must have Florida Product Approval (NOA or FL number). The Florida Product Approval system verifies that the product has been tested and approved for use in Florida's wind environment.
