What Restaurant MEP Engineering Includes

Mechanical (HVAC & Ventilation): Commercial kitchens generate extreme heat loads. We size and design HVAC systems, makeup air units, and exhaust systems to maintain safe temperatures and comply with FBC Section 506 and NFPA 96.

Electrical: Restaurant kitchens require dedicated circuits for ovens, fryers, refrigeration, and lighting. We produce complete electrical plans including panel schedules, load calculations, and equipment connections.

Plumbing: From grease interceptors to commercial dishwasher connections, we design plumbing systems that meet Florida Plumbing Code and local health department requirements.

Hood Exhaust & Fire Suppression: Every commercial cooking operation requires a Type I or Type II hood with a UL 300-listed fire suppression system. We coordinate with your fire suppression contractor and design the exhaust system to meet NFPA 96 requirements.

Florida Restaurant Permit Requirements

In Florida, any new restaurant or food service establishment requires MEP permit drawings submitted to the local building department. Plans must be signed and sealed by a licensed Florida Professional Engineer (PE).

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) Division of Hotels and Restaurants also requires plan review before issuing a food service license — MEP plans are part of this submission.

Local health departments review plumbing and grease trap designs. In coastal counties like Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach, additional environmental regulations apply to grease interceptor sizing and discharge.

Pineland Engineering is a licensed Florida PE & RA firm. We produce permit-ready MEP drawings and coordinate with building departments, health departments, and fire marshals to get your restaurant open on schedule.
